Les Coignons, named after this plot planted in 2012, on a Kimmeridgian clay-limestone hillside , is vinified with indigenous yeasts and aged for a year in vats. This plot gives us wines with beautiful tension, powerful salinity and lemony notes.

Growing Conditions

Vines managed in sustainable viticulture / Terra Vitis certified: natural inter-row grass cover to control the plant vigor, mechanical tillage, use of organic fertilizers and green manure trials, abandonment anti-botrytis (gray rot) treatments, insecticides and CMR classified products, planting of hedges to promote biodiversity, planting vines from mass selection and old local grape varieties (Genouillet), conversion of a third of the vineyard to organic viticulture.

Cignons: young vines planted in 8676 and 8677 on clay limestone on a Kimmeridgian base.

Harvest 2021: Return to a classic Center-Loire vintage.

But certain vines in Brinay, including those of the Ballandors estate, saw half of the buds disappear due to freezing. Then the excess rains of May June limited the effectiveness of protection against mildew, especially since we were trying an organic protection experiment based only on copper and plants. The summer, however, allowed good development of the grapes, well filled, without water stress.

Harvest

And it is an autumn harvest from September 20 to October 10, which allowed us to harvest healthy grapes, good maturity. The established botrytis remained in a noble form which did not alter the harvest. A fresh and lively vintage, full of elegance, with a lighter red than usual! A good guard in 2021, definitely!
