We wanted to put some whole clusters back into fermentation: and so much the better! Écarlate is new, it's full of fresh red fruit and spices, it's delicious!
Growing Conditions
Vines managed in sustainable viticulture / Terra Vitis certified: abandonment of treatments against rot. Gray, natural grass cover, tillage, green manure trials.
Les Cignons in Reuilly young vines planted in 2010 and 2011 on clay-limestone.
Harvest
Return to a classic vintage from the Center Loire
But certain vines in Brinay, including those of the Ballandors estate, saw half of the buds disappear due to frost. Then the excess rains of May-June limited the effectiveness of the protection against mildew, especially since we were trying an experiment in organic protection based only on copper and plants. Summer has
however allowed good development of the grapes, well filled, without water stress. And it’s an autumn harvest
from September 20 to October 10, which allowed us to harvest healthy grapes, at good maturity. Botrytis installed
remained in a noble form which did not alter the harvest.
A fresh and lively vintage, full of elegance, with a lighter red than usual!
Winemaking
This manual harvest is brought in small boxes to the cellar. Vatting in successive layers of whole bunches and destemmed grapes. Alcoholic fermentation in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, punching down. Devatting before the end of the FA (one week to 10 days of maceration). Bottling in spring, vintage of 3,000 bottles
Nose
The nose is rich and complex with notes of red fruits (currants and strawberries).
Palate
Very delicious, straight, tangy and supple on the palate. Complex aromas: cherries, notes of vanilla, spices, etc. Fruity wine with notes of cherry and strawberry with a peppery finish.
Appearance
The color is clear and luminous in 2021.
Food Pairing
To drink with friends, as an aperitif because its fruit is enough in itself! From 5 to 10 years.
